German Hair Syndrome is a ladyfinger East German quartet from the German Democratic Republic. They first broke onto the Soviet punk/rockabilly scene in 1985 before embarking by accident on a US Tour (they boarded a plane bound for the United States instead of the United Arab Emirates). In one of the X-files of modern rock history, German Hair Syndrome maintains that the fall of the Berlin Wall and subsequent dissolve of their country of origin went unnoticed until 1997. Lacking current state identification, the four members of the group were unable to return to Germany and – although offered amnesty by the United States government as part of the Transnational Artist Assimilation Program – have not accepted US citizenship. Heike Kleene-Jungfrau, Samantha St. Pauli, Dagmar van Linderhuus and Jörg Öztürk currently live in a socialist commune twenty minutes outside of Durham, North Carolina.
GHS is currently in the studio remastering their first two albums, Spargelzeit(Asparagus Time) and Flucht Versuch(Escape Attempt).
