Spargelzeit (Asparagus Time) was first released in 1984 on Krautrock Records. The ten-track debut is a rambling mix of Casio beats, tambourines and Heike Kleene-Jungfrau's spirited electric viola. The title refers to the first harvest of white asparagus, seen as the marker of spring in German culture, and the tracks resonate with the sounds of the Teutonic. Oom-pa beats, waltzing lyrics and sweet Soviet-era innocence seep into your ears like propoganda. The anniversary re-release of this cult classic and its gems like “Monatskarte” and “Quark” will leave you with haunting Ohrwürme you won't be able to get rid of until the next Stalinist revolution – which leaves us with one question: schnapps, anyone?

Flucht Versuch (Escape Attempt), GHS's second album, was released in 1989 on the newly founded American arm of Krautrock Records, the directly translated "CabbageRock Records." Talking about every kind of escape except their remarkable and accidental flight to the country farthest away from the former Soviet Socialist Republics, Flucht Versuch is a meditation on loss and denial. The number 275 hit ballad "dirty laundry" as well as "cunt" and "trübes wetter" show us a different side of the previously whimsical Ostrock group as they adjust to living the socialist dream in the land of neoliberal capital. Some of their more sophisticated lyrical ballads such as "ersatzfreund" appear here uncut.
